History
The Pouch, Utility, Nylon, OD, was a medium-sized utility pouch produced by Hallmark New Zealand in the late 1980s. Not much is known about this pouch at this time, and we believe it to be a standalone item produced for private purchase by New Zealand soldiers as an alternative to using the Pouch, Ammunition, SA.
Alternatively, it could have been produced as part of a trial web set or a set of pouches, as it was produced around the same time as the New Zealand army Onward field pack and uses the same fabric that this field pack was made with.
Description
The pouch is constructed using olive drab Barrage material, a heavy-duty nylon cloth that has been waterproofed on the internal side with a robust green polyurethane (PU) lamination.
The pouch lid features a large lip to fully enclose its contents and closes securely with a 25mm side-release buckle and a webbing strap. The front of the pouch is equipped with a short vertical nylon webbing loop that allows a webbing strap or bungee cord to be threaded through it.
The sides of the pouch feature large, thin external pouches with lids that secure shut using metal domes. These external pouches also have metal grommets for water drainage. The base of the pouch has a metal grommet to enable water to freely drain from it.
The back of the pouch is designed with two short webbing loops at the top, and below these loops is a 50mm webbing belt loop that runs the length of the pouch.
