History
The Case, Respirator was produced by Arktis U.K, LTD and is designed to only hold an S-6 or S-10 gas mask and filter. The Case could be worn in one of three different ways: attached to a web belt or hung from it, suspended by the webbing straps; or high on the chest attached to from the web suspenders. The Case is a smaller alternative to the issue S-6 and S-10 Haversacks being less bulky and was best suited to riot situations were no decontamination equipment was needed, or any other low threat situation.
Description
The Case is fabricated with olive drab textured nylon cloth, it was also available in DPM and has blackened brass snap-domes. The Case is cut to fit the gas mask upside down, the lid is shaped to close over the front and sides and closes with hook and loop fastening tape and opens by being pulled down. The back face has a nylon webbing strap on each side that creates a loop with a snap-dome at its base, enabling the Case to be attached to the web suspenders or hung from a web belt. Below the webbing straps is a textured nylon belt loop and below this is a smaller loop that a bungee cord threads through. The Case’s sides have three short webbing tabs with snap-domes, these enable the Case to be attached to other web pouches in the Arktis webbing system. The front face of that Case on the internal side is lined with textured nylon cloth.
The Case’s description from a late 1990s Arktis catalogue:
“1758/59 Respirator Case. Not a substitute for the issue suitcase (S-6/10 haversack). But designed to carry the respirator by itself, occupies little more spaces than a water bottle pouch. Can be worn on the belt, on the thigh, or on the chest. Canister can be fitted or stowed inside, Velcro fastening for rapid access.”
