History
The Coat Combat, G.S is a military jacket that was designed and manufactured in Canada by Peerless Garments LTD in 1963. It is a part of the General Service Uniform family and comes in a solid olive drab color with shade No.7. The jacket is a size 8, long-medium and has six pockets, including two top pockets, two large bottom pockets, and two map pockets on each side of the chest. It is windproof due to its heavyweight, windproof cotton and polyester cloth construction, but it is not waterproof. However, it is water repellent.
The jacket was intended to be worn in temperature climates and was designed with the idea that soldiers would carry their weapon’s magazines in the jacket or shirt and not in pouches on the web set.
Description
The jacket’s collar is lined with olive green corduroy and the back has buttons for a detachable hood to be fitted to the jacket. The sleeve cuffs are adjusted around the wrists with button-down cloth tabs. The internal side of the jacket has a number of buttons attached to it in order for the removable liner to be attached.
The jacket has two top pockets and two large bottom pockets. The top pockets are internally reinforced with nylon cloth and each hold a single C1-A1 Rifle 20rd 7.62mm magazine. The leading edge of the top left pocket has a cloth sleeve for a dosimeter. The left hand bottom pocket has two internal nylon sleeves that each hold a single C-1 20rd magazine. All four pockets close with button-down lids, with both top pockets closing with negative seals and the bottom pockets closing with positive seals. The internal side of the jacket has a flat, open-top map pocket on each side of the chest. The front of the jacket closes with a heavy-duty brass zip that has an internal and external button over storm cover. The shoulders and elbows are lined with olive green rubberized type cotton cloth.
