History
The Overboot, Thermal (Boot) is a type of footwear that was designed to be worn over field boots in cold, dry environments. They were commonly used by British soldiers, particularly those who were performing static jobs such as sentry duty, in unheated areas. These boots were designed to keep soldiers’ feet warm and dry, making them a crucial piece of equipment in harsh conditions.
Description
The Overboot is made of several layers of insulation, which allows them to fold up and be easily carried in a field pack. The olive green quilted layer covers the top of the foot and extends up the leg. The boots secure around the foot with an olive green polyester tape tie, which is laced through small alloy D-rings. The outer layer of the sole is textured to provide some grip, while a closed-cell foam rubber mid-sole keeps the foot off the ground.
Although the Overboots are not completely waterproof, they are water repellent, which helps to keep feet dry in damp conditions. These boots are not fire-resistant and are designed solely for use in cold, dry arctic environments.
