History
The Suspenders were derived from the shoulder strap design of the US issue Tactical Load-Bearing Vest (TLBV) and were a commercially manufactured item privately purchased by New Zealand soldiers from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s. They provided a more comfortable alternative to the US-style Y (Suspenders, Individual Equipment) suspenders issued by the New Zealand Army.
Description

Examples
Example One
The suspenders are fabricated from a polyester and cotton blended canvas printed with a Temperate DPM camouflage pattern.
The shoulder straps are each 12 cm wide and are joined together at the nape of the neck by a section of 50 mm olive drab woven nylon webbing. A second length of 50 mm woven nylon webbing is sewn over the top of this section, forming a large webbing loop across the rear of both shoulder straps before being secured with a series of transverse rows of stitching across the back of the neck.
Each shoulder strap is positioned beneath and sewn to the centre of a continuous 190 cm length of black woven nylon webbing, with the webbing running over the top of the shoulder strap. The front and rear ends of the webbing form the adjustment straps and are independently adjusted using metal ladder-lock buckles.
The front of each shoulder strap incorporates a horizontal olive drab woven nylon webbing loop that enables equipment, such as the Pouch, Compass/Field Dressing, to be attached. Immediately below this is an olive drab plastic D-ring that allows the supporting straps of the Pouch, Ammunition, SA (Small Arms) to be clipped to the suspenders or other items of load-carrying equipment.
Internally, the shoulder straps are padded with a woollen felt interlining. The raw edges are finished with olive drab binding tape to protect the fabric from fraying and improve durability.
