History
The Pouch, Utility, Camouflage was a commercial pouch produced by a local manufacturer during the mid-1990s and early 2000s and was utilised as both a utility and canteen pouch.
As well as being produced in a standard format, it was also available in a version internally lined with an olive drab waterproof poly-cotton blend cloth. This example incorporated a plastic stiffening board sewn between the outer nylon fabric and lining on the back wall, giving the pouch additional rigidity.
Description
The pouch is fabricated from nylon cloth and uses coarse woven nylon webbing straps. The lid closes with an adjustable 25 mm side-release buckle strap and is shaped to extend down the sides of the main compartment when closed, depending on the volume of the pouch.
Each side has a section of 50 mm webbing sewn from the back edge to the middle of the side. This forms two webbing channels for ALICE side keepers, allowing an ALICE-style field dressing pouch to be fitted to one or both sides.
Internally, the pouch has a second layer of nylon cloth lining the front wall, back wall, and base. The base is fitted with a metal drainage grommet, allowing water to run out freely.
At least two variations of the pouch were produced. One example is internally lined with olive drab poly-cotton cloth and incorporates a thin plastic stiffening panel within the back wall, positioned between the outer nylon fabric and the lining. This stiffening panel helps maintain the shape of the pouch and improves stability when attached to a web belt.
