History
The Pouch, Canvas, Utility was fabricated from heavy cotton canvas and appears to have been influenced by the British SAS Pouch, Ration, Escape. Its design suggests post-war adaptation or local manufacture inspired by British special forces equipment used during jungle operations in Southeast Asia.
Description
The lid is an extension of the back panel, tapering to a point at the front, and closes with a webbing pull-tab, alloy D-ring, and staple. The sides of the lid extend downward to cover the pouch opening, preventing debris from entering and items from falling out. The underside of the lid is reinforced with a second layer of heavy cotton canvas for added durability. The side edges of the front panel are sewn down to form defined seams.
The rear of the pouch features an oversized canvas web belt loop, allowing it to be securely fitted to a standard web belt.
Examples
Example One
Example One retains traces of hand-applied camouflage paint, indicating that the pouch was customized for field use at some stage during its service life.
