History
The Israeli binocular case appears to use the British Pattern 1937 Web Equipment binocular case as a design base and was intended for use with the Israeli Defence Forces Tziyud Ḥagur (Load-Bearing Equipment) web system. This system combined design elements derived from British Pattern 1937 and U.S. M-1936 web equipment, alongside locally developed Israeli solutions, and was in use during the 1960s and 1970s.
The binocular case was not a standard-issue infantry item and was only issued when binoculars were issued, indicating its role as specialist or role-specific equipment rather than a core component of the webbing system.
Description
The lid of the case is secured with a metal dome fastener. The lower edge of the lid extends beyond the mouth of the case, forming a protective overlap intended to prevent foreign objects from entering and scratching the binocular lenses.
The body of the case and the lid are fabricated from two layers of woven khaki cotton webbing fabric. Sandwiched between these layers are plastic spacer-type boards, which provide rigidity and help the case retain its shape. The base of the case incorporates a soft pad, constructed from woollen or cotton felt covered with dark khaki cotton cloth, to cushion the binoculars during carriage.
British Pattern 1937–style tri-glide buckles are fitted to each side of the case, allowing it to be carried using a shoulder strap.
At the centre of the rear face is a 50 mm web belt loop. Flanking each side of this belt loop is a double wire hooks (C-hooks), allowing the case to be secured directly to web equipment.
All raw edges are finished with olive drab polyester binding tape, preventing fraying and reinforcing high-wear areas.
