History
The Holster, Pistol, 9mm is a component of the South African Pattern-70 Web Equipment system and is designed to hold a 9-mm pistol, spare magazine, cleaning rod, and brush. It is attached to the web belt.
The initial version of the Holster included a top pouch that could hold a compass or boxed loose rounds, which was likely influenced by the British Pattern-37 Web Equipment and Pattern-44 Web Equipment Web Equipment systems. These systems had a small pouch above the holster when assembled correctly. However, the reason for the removal of this feature in subsequent versions of the Holster is currently unknown.
Description
The Holster is made of khaki tan woven cotton webbing with chemically blackened brass snap-domes. The small pouch is attached to the top of the Holster and secured with a snap-dome. The front of the pouch has a small O-ring for attaching a lanyard. The lid covers the pistol and spare mag pouch and is closed with a snap-dome. A short webbing tab is sewn to the end of the lid.
The Holster’s spine is reinforced on one side, and the opposite side has a small O-ring for attaching the pistol’s lanyard. The spare mag pouch is an open-top pouch that is sewn to the front of the Holster and has a thin sleeve for a bore brush next to it. The internal side of the Holster’s back wall has a thin open-top pocket for the pistol’s cleaning rod.
The Holster is secured to a web belt using two webbing loops and a snap-dome on the back face.
