History
Issued by the Malaysian army in the 1970s, the map case is a close copy of the British army jungle map case issued during the closing years of World War 2. Essentially the same, with only a few changes made to the design.
Description
The map case is made of lightweight jungle green nylon cloth with a clear vinyl panel sewn onto the internal side, creating a large, open flat compartment for a folded-out map. Entry to the compartment is at the top, on the internal side, with a small metal zip.
The front of the map case features a large pouch for holding notebooks, maps, and other items. The external side of this pouch has five pen sleeves and closes with a nylon cloth lid that’s secured shut with two metal domes. Initially, the map case had a spring-loaded clip at the top, but this has long since been removed.
When folded up, the case is held together with a large section of nylon cloth that’s secured with two metal domes, while the sides of the case are held closed with two canvas straps fastened with metal domes.
