History
The Field Pack, Sierra One in DPCU, was also known as a Sniper field pack and may have been referred to by other names. This well-liked pack maintained its design until around 2010 and was produced by several companies throughout its lifetime. Serving as an oversized patrol pack, it was relatively short given its capacity to carry a significant amount of equipment. This characteristic made it particularly well-suited for jungle and dense woodland environments, where the field pack could easily become entangled in low-hanging branches and other types of vegetation.
Description
The lid features a large external pouch that closes with a heavy-duty zip, protected by a simple rain cover. Access to this pouch is at the back. The ends of the lid extend down the sides of the main compartment to fully enclose its contents. Closure is achieved with two webbing straps and side-release buckles, originating from the base of the front pouch.
The main compartment features a large mouth with a draw-cord and a short snow collar. Regrettably, the draw-cord only extends 3/4 of the way around, leaving the back open. However, the back of the collar is higher, allowing it to fold over the mouth when the lid is closed.
At the top of the field pack, you’ll find a 25mm grab handle positioned between the padded, adjustable shoulder straps. The back of the pack is internally padded with closed-cell foam.
At the bottom of each side, a 50mm tri-glide buckle is present for attaching a waistband. Side pockets extend the full length of the pack, closing with a draw-cord. Both lids are secured shut with a webbing strap and side-release buckle. The sides of the lids extend well past the mouths of the side pockets. The front pouch, also sizable, closes with a heavy-duty zip and is protected by a simple rain cover. The base is equipped with two webbing straps featuring loops and grab handles in the middle, though their functionality as grab handles may be limited.
