History
The Trouser, Combat FR were integral to a flame-resistant uniform aimed at safeguarding British aircrew personnel in the military. This uniform was issued from the early 2000s until its replacement in the late 2010s with a new design of flame-resistant uniform in Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP). These trousers, like other components of the flame-resistant uniform, utilize the Combat Soldier 95 uniform base and have undergone only slight design changes to better serve aircrew personnel.
Description
The Trousers, Combat, FR (flame-resistant), are fabricated with a blend of 50% FR Viscose, 49% Kermel, and 1% Anti-static rip-stop cloth, featuring a two-tone desert DPM camouflage pattern printed on the external side
These trousers fasten around the waist with a single button and have a concealed zip-up front fly. The external side of the waistband is equipped with six 2 ½ inch wide cloth belt loops.
The waist can be further adjusted with a button-down cloth tab on each side, offering two points of adjustment. The internal side of the waistband has a cotton draw-cord, allowing the trousers to be cinched around the waist.
The trousers have eight pockets: two hip pockets with slash entry, an open-top back pocket that buttons down at the top, and a large bellows thigh pocket on the legs with lids secured by a combination of buttons and hook-and-loop tabs. The leading edge of both thigh pockets features a large flat ‘map’ type pocket closing with hook-and-loop fastening tape along the front edge.
The left pocket’s external side has patches of hook-and-loop sewn onto it, while the right thigh pocket features a dedicated space for a shroud cutter, intended for holding a Knife, Emergency, Aircrew (MK-3), and a lanyard in an upside-down position. The pocket’s lid is secured shut with hook-and-loop fastening tape.
The cuffs of the legs are equipped with cotton draw-cords, enabling them to be gathered around the ankle.
