History
The Jacket, Field, 2-G (Jacket) was heavyweight Herringbone-Twill (HBT) cotton jacket issued by the Portuguese military in the early 1960’s and was loosely based on the French TAP Modéle 1947, both in design and camouflage pattern. The Jacket was worn by Portuguese soldiers operating in Angola and Mozambique in the early 1960s and the camouflage pattern was a similar style to the French ‘lizard’ pattern.
Description
The Jacket has a mandarin collar and closes at the front with seven concealed buttons. The front has two large bellows top pockets and two larger bottom pockets, the pockets close with a simple button-down cloth tab, this leaves the pocket lid as just a basic cover. The top of the shoulders and elbows of the sleeves are externally reinforced with a fabric patches. The right shoulder has two short button-down tabs underneath the shoulder loop that was used to secure a cloth foulard. The cuffs adjust around the wrists with button-down cloth taps.
The internal side of the Jacket has a single open top pocket on the left hand side and the exposed seams covered cotton binding tape.
