History
The Jacket, Combat, High Plateau is a commercially produced copy of the Type-03, High Plateau field jacket issued to Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) personnel stationed in arid or semi-desert environments.
Description
It is made of lightweight polyester and cotton blended fabric with a Type-03 camouflage pattern. The collar is a basic style, and the Jacket closes at the front with a full-length, heavy-duty plastic zip and has a storm cover that secures the zip with metal domes.
The upper arm of the right sleeve has two small fabric loops added to it for attaching rank, unit patches or similar. The sleeve cuffs are elasticized and can be further adjusted with hook and loop fastening tabs. The Jacket has small ‘button’-like holes on both sides of the chest for attaching a branch of service tag and name tag.
The Jacket has three pockets – an angled chest pocket that closes with a plastic zip, a smaller, slanted pocket on the left sleeve that also closes with a plastic zip, and a large patch style pocket at the bottom with a metal snap-dome secured lid. The pockets have external expansion pleats, but these are purely decorative and do not allow the pockets to expand in any way.
The Jacket, Combat, High Plateau is a direct copy of the Chinese issued field jacket but is made with a lighter cotton and polyester blended fabric than the issued version. The upper shoulders of this jacket originally had a large Chinese flag attached to the left sleeve and a gold on blank scroll attached to the right sleeve, but these have been removed on this example.
