History
Not much is currently known about this specific hat; however, it can be ascertained that with the adoption of the Granite-B camouflage pattern around 2010, the Republic of Korea Army produced a waterproof wide-brimmed field hat fabricated from a tri-laminated, Gore-Tex–type fabric.
This hat was intended for wear with wet-weather uniforms rather than hot-weather dress, reflecting South Korea’s climatic conditions, which include relatively short hot and humid periods and significantly longer cool, wet, and cold seasons compared to much of East and Southeast Asia.
Description
The hat is fabricated from a tri-laminated waterproof fabric and features a black nylon mesh lining on the underside, with a pixelated camouflage pattern on the exterior. Unlike the US Hat, Sun, Hot Weather, the crown does not slope downward toward the front, giving the hat a more level and structured profile.
Ventilation is provided by two metal mesh eyelets on each side of the crown. A foliage band runs circumferentially around the hat just above the brim and incorporates evenly spaced 6.5 cm fabric loops. The brim itself measures approximately 6.5 cm in length and is constructed from two layers of tri-laminated fabric with a thin internal interlining to provide stiffness. These layers are secured with concentric circular stitching, further reinforcing the brim and helping it retain its shape.
Internally, the sides of the crown are lined with an additional layer of tri-laminated fabric. A green polyester-nylon chin strap cord is sewn into the sides of the hat at the side–brim seam and hangs downward, allowing the hat to be secured beneath the chin.
