The Trousers, Combat, Cotton Drill, DPM (Lined) were first issued in 1980 and are a copy of the British 68-Pattern Trousers, Combat, DPM. Initially, the trousers issued were British 68-Pattern trousers. Later versions were fabricated in New Zealand using stocks of DPM fabric purchased from the British Military.

The Tropical DPM (unlined) Trousers were initially introduced to the New Zealand Army in 1982, proving to be much lighter and cooler than the previously issued Trousers, Combat, DPM.
In the late 1970s, the New Zealand army adopted the British 68-pattern uniform and altered colors for to suit New Zealand’s terrain better. The Smock, like the 68-pattern, had a Temperate DPM pattern and olive Sateen lining and featured various pockets, a foldable collar, and draw-cords.
