History

The pack was produced in New Zealand but appears more comparable to a teenager’s school pack than to a field pack designed for hunters or soldiers. Its construction is extremely simple, while the shoulder straps are too short for most normal-sized adults and cause the pack to sit unusually high on the back.

Description

The pack is small and box-shaped, with a basic design, and is fabricated from two layers of textured nylon cloth printed with a woodland camouflage pattern.

The lid is formed as an extension of the back of the pack and is shaped to cover the pack mouth. Its front and sides extend down over the body of the pack, fully enclosing the mouth. The lid is secured with two nylon webbing straps and plastic side-release buckles.

A nylon webbing carrying handle is sewn centrally to the top of the back. Below this are two shoulder straps, internally padded with closed-cell foam. Each strap is stitched longitudinally through the centre to prevent the foam from moving. The carrying handle and upper attachment points of the shoulder straps are reinforced by a 50 mm-wide webbing strap sewn across the top of the pack. The shoulder straps are adjusted using plastic side-release buckles and nylon webbing straps attached to wedge-shaped fabric panels sewn to the lower sides of the pack.

Internally, the pack has a 15 cm high nylon snow collar, which can be drawn closed using a nylon draw-cord and plastic barrel lock. The collar is fabricated from nylon fabric printed with a Brushstroke camouflage pattern. This is the same type of fabric used to fabricate New Zealand Army Shelter, Individuals, commonly known as Hootchies or Bashas.

A plastic board provides the pack with a basic internal frame and is enclosed between the two layers of fabric forming the back.
