History
The Field Pack, Nylon was initially introduced by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in the early 1980s. It served as a straightforward nylon pack designed for both combat operations and training, bearing a resemblance to the Malaysian army field pack from that era. This field pack remained in service with the Singapore Armed Forces until the early 2000s.
Description
The field pack is designed with a waterproofed lid, featuring webbing straps to secure items like a bed roll. The lid also has webbing loops and grommets for attaching a shovel and cover. The handle of the shovel can be secured at the bottom of the field pack with a webbing strap. It closes securely with thread-through metal buckles and webbing straps.
The main compartment features a waterproof liner permanently attached at the front, and secured to the sides and back with hook and loop tape. This design allows the liner to be easily moved aside, facilitating the use of an open-top pouch for holding a field radio.
The side pouches are generously sized, external box-shaped compartments with large lids extending down the sides. They close securely with metal thread-through buckles and webbing straps.
On the back, the pack features two padded foam pads for enhanced airflow. The shoulder straps are padded and equipped with metal buckles, including a quick-release on each side. At the bottom, there’s a thin adjustable waistband that can be customized at the sides and middle for optimal comfort.
