History
In 1965, West Germany replaced the M-62 protective mask with the M-65 protective mask. This new mask required a new carrier for transport along with other protective components. West Germany opted for a simpler carrier design that was easier to produce.
Called a Tashe, Triage-ABC Schutzasstattung (Bag, Triage-ABC Protective Equipment) in German, the carrier was designed to hold the Atomic, Biological, and Chemical (ABC) Protective Mask 65, a spare filter, a self-help roll for individual decontamination, an ABC protective tarpaulin if needed, outer mask lenses, a lens cleaning/anti-fog cloth, and an emergency cape. Along with an ABC suit, the carrier and its components enabled soldiers to operate in the field for extended periods.
The carrier was worn on the left side, slung over the shoulder with the web set worn over it.
Description
Fabricated from rubberized fabric, the carrier features an adjustable and removable woven webbing shoulder strap, to which a plastic ID case is attached. The top of the carrier rolls down over the contents to close the bag and is secured with a rubber strap and plastic boss at two points of closure.
Inside, the carrier is an open space, but the top section includes a nylon retaining strap that tethers the self-help roll to the carrier with a plastic clip.
